The 36th APACRS and the 24th CSCRS came to a successful end in Chengdu

On June 1, the 36th Annual meeting of the Asia Pacific Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the 24th Academic Conference of the Chinese Medical Association on Cataract and Refractive Surgery, which lasted for three days, ended successfully in Chengdu.
This is the seventh time that APACRS and CSCRS have jointly held the conference in China after seven years. With the theme of “Precision and perfection”, the conference inherited traditional highlights such as master style, Professor Lin Shaoming’s named lecture, film festival, joint seminar of Cataract and Refractive Society, etc., with a total of 6 venues and more than 60 main and sub-forums, with simultaneous interpretation in both Chinese and English.

A total of more than 3,600 delegates attended the conference to exchange experience and seek common development, including 150 international speakers and more than 350 overseas delegates from the Americas, Europe, Oceania and other countries and regions in Asia, which effectively enhanced China’s influence in the global field of cataract and refractive surgery, fully reflecting the requirements of The Times and Chinese characteristics.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Wang Jian, Vice President and Secretary General of the Chinese Medical Association, Dr. Chen Yongguang, chairman of the organizing committee of the conference, and Professor Yao Ke, chairman of the Asia-Pacific Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery and chairman of the Ophthalmology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, delivered speeches respectively, expressing their congratulations and expectations for the successful convening of the conference. The opening ceremony was presided over by Dr. Zhong Leyang and Dr. Zhang Xiaobo from Zhejiang University Eye Hospital.
At the conference, Professor Bi Hongsheng from the Affiliated Eye Hospital of Shandong University of Chinese Medicine won the Gold Medal of the Asia Pacific Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of ophthalmology in China and the Asia Pacific region.

At the closing ceremony, Professor Yiu Ke of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Group, Professor He Mingguang of Prevention of Blindness and Epidemiology Group, Professor Shi Wai-wan of Corneology Group, Professor Liu Xu-yang of Glaucoma Group, Professor Wei Shi-fai of Neuro-ophthalmology Group, Professor Li Shi-ying of Visual Physiology Group, Professor Li Yue-ping of squint and Pediatric Ophthalmology Group, Professor Chen Chih-ching of ophthalmic Pathology Group, Professor Xu Xun of Ophthalmic fundus Disease Group, Professor Wu Xin-yi of Ocular Immunology Group Professor Hu Liang of Optometry Group, Professor Wang Zhijun of Ocular Trauma Group and Professor Jia Renbing of Ophthalmology Group reviewed a series of achievements made by the Group in the past two years on behalf of the group, chaired by Professor Zhao Mingwei, Deputy Secretary-General of the Branch of Ophthalmology.





Professor Wang Yan from Tianjin Eye Hospital, Professor Xu Wen from Zhejiang University Eye Hospital and Dr. Patrick Versace from Australia were awarded the title of certified Educators in recognition of their outstanding achievements in promoting the dissemination of advanced technologies and improving the equity and accessibility of health care services.

Dr. Yamane from Japan won the LIM Lecture of Asia-Pacific Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He gave a keynote speech entitled “The Past and present life of intraocular lens Interscleral fixation technology”, introducing the development history of intraocular lens interscleral fixation technology, key operation tips, technical improvements and surgical instruments.

As one of the traditional highlights of APACRS, this festival combines Chinese and foreign elements and characteristics, is entertaining and educational, and continues to attract a large number of submissions from ophthalmologists, especially Chinese experts. In the end, Dr. Saburo Noguchi from Japan won the Gold Prize of this film festival, and Dr. Jin Haiying from Dongfang Hospital Affiliated to Tongji University Medical School won the overall category Winner. Dr. Zhu Xiangjia from the Otolaryngology Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University and Dr. Chen Wei from the Optometry Hospital Affiliated to Wenzhou Medical University received the categories of cataract complications/Complex cases and refractive/corneal surgery Runner Up.






Continuing the tradition of master style, the conference invited 17 top experts from around the world to demonstrate their superb surgical skills through vivid video presentations to enhance the surgical abilities of participating ophthalmologists. Professor Yu Yibo of Zhejiang University Eye Hospital was awarded Runner Up.
The conference also featured a special session jointly organized by the three major cataract and refractive societies of the United States, Europe and the Asia Pacific. Prof. Yao and Prof. David Chang and Prof. William F. Wiley from the United States, Prof. Graham Barrett from Australia, Prof. Nic Reus from the Netherlands, Professor Thomas Kohnen from Germany conducted in-depth discussions on three topics: intraocular lens and intraocular lens formula with light adjustment, phacoemulsification and FLACS, full femtosecond and excimer laser surgery, and six experts participated in the discussion, all of whom are current or former presidents of three major societies.
The conference also voted for the Best Free Paper and the Best ePoster.
